New Delhi: Congress leaders and workers on Friday held symbolic demonstrations near various petrol pumps in different areas of Delhi to protest against the hike in the prices of petrol and diesel.
Party’s organization general secretary KC Venugopal and senior leader Shakti Singh Gohil rode on a horse-cart and reached the petrol pump near Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.
Venugopal said that during the then Congress-led UPA government, the central tax on petrol and diesel was Rs 9.20, but it has been increased to Rs 32 in the Narendra Modi government.
He also said, ‘The government should stop increasing the excise duty on petrol and diesel. We demand that the increased prices of petrol and diesel be withdrawn.
Congress general secretary Ajay Maken led the protests near petrope pumps in Rajendra Nagar and Janpath.
The Congress claims that there was a symbolic demonstration across the country against the increase in the prices of petrol and diesel and during this the protocol related to the corona virus was followed completely.
